Established in 2007 by alumni and friends, led by Tony Jaffe, Tisch,’86, the Thomas Drysdale Production fund is a permanent endowment to provide selected Photography and Imaging majors with completion assistance for creative, documentary or research projects. In naming this endowment, they have chosen to honor a long-serving member of the faculty and the founding chair of the department, Professor Tom Drysdale.
The purpose of the Tom Drysdale Production Fund is to provide completion support for work-in-progress. Photography and Imaging majors in good academic standing are invited to submit proposals and representative work samples related to projects already underway. Students are also asked to furnish a budget and an expense projection. This year, we have given five awards in the amount of $1000 and two smaller awards of $250. These awards were divided equally between the junior and senior applicant pools, respectively. Grants are made on the basis of the quality of the work–in-progress at the time of the application and on the merits of the related proposals. Alumni help to administer the fund, serving as jurors in the annual selection process.
The Tom Drysdale Production Fund will remain open for new contributions and it is our hope that it will grow over time, providing for additional or larger grants in the future.
